To the 6-month-period-anon: Especially if it has a bad smell, you definitely need to go to the doctor. I have extremely irregular periods (sometimes I won't have one for months, but then sometimes I'll have them on and off like that anon described) but no matter how odd or heavy or light or sporadic or constant they are, they never smell like anything other than just blood. A bad smell could be an indication of some sort of infection; she should definitely see a doctor.
